I think Severed looks more interesting upon further reading.

Crossed is awesome.
Sometimes I wrestle with my demons.
But most of the time, we just snuggle.
The original Crossed is good. But Severed is excellent. Definitely go with that.
AV is absolutely worthy of a buy. Awesome series.
It's a tough choice!
Severed looks good, and is cheaper (and in Hardcover). But lots of reviews say the story and art aren't all that, other say it's the second coming of modern horror.
How is the art in Severed?
Well, if you will dislike the style, then you will dislike the style.
But it is quite lovely. A bit rough but painterly and tone appropriate.
