Ever since tablets started gaining momentum I have always thought they were completely useless UNLESS they all had a very slick keyboard base they connected to at anytime which made it a laptop AND ran a full OS. I don't want a tablet that runs Android or iOS. I want a computer. The occasional couch surfing and what not is nice but at anytime I want it to be a laptop it can be. Plus it is running Windows 7/8 so all my software works and it's all good.

IMO it is dumb for all these people to own an Android/iOS tablet that they just use on the couch and they also own a laptop that does the majority of everything for them. The 2 becoming one and a real operating system is the only thing that has ever made sense to me.

Pretty much this....i mean there is a legit certain trendiness factor of owning an iPad for some people. But that's certainly doesn't account of the millions and millions that it has sold. But to be fair it hasn't been faced with compelling competition yet...it basically did what the iPhone did to the phone market...put user interface and ease of use first...it'll start tacking on features that make sense next. Android def. has an almost desktop like feel to tablets...but again, user experience is lacking imo still. Windows 8 looks to touch on both the user interface/feel and of course the full OS capabilities.

I just don't want to make sacrifices in what a $500+ device can do. Hence why i don't own a tablets (sold my HP Touchpad a few weeks ago haha)

Laying in bed or on the couch with a laptop is fucking annoying at best. I want an internet portal that's shaped like a book that I can conveniently hold with 1 or 2 hands while I'm laying down. That's a tablet, and they are perfect for that. I don't understand how people don't understand their significance. In fact, I think it's dumb to not get it.

Form factor is a SIGNIFICANT feature, as such tablets kick ass for portability and ease of use. Laptops are great on a desk.

I think you missed our main argument there bub haha.

Having the option for portable tablet and convertible laptop without sacrificing full computer and ease of tablet computing is what we like. Again, like the Samsung Windows 8 Tablet:


Although you're not a fan of metro so you probably aren't that interested in windows 8 as a tablet.

I should also add, Apple is missing some golden opportunities linking their iPhone and ipad more. Like it sounds like Windows Phone and Windows 8 will be able to link up to each other so you can see text messages, answer and recieve calls via windows 8 as wlel.

Why iPad doesn't allow this yet is perplexing...though i guess iMessage works through the iPad so its a small start.

I don't mind Metro on a tablet actually....kind of weird, on a phone it makes me want to power off the device and put it on a shelf. We are already planning a group policy to disable that Metro shit when we deploy it where I work on desktops. Now I might even go back and read what you guys were actually talking about. lolz

I don't quite understand why this is an issue. Everything that you get on your iPhone, you can get on your iPad (minus the phonecalls). Messages, emails, game updates, ect ect.

How would they link them together more?

I think some of you guys are really missing the boat on what Windows 8 tablets are going to offer.

Any ARM based tablet isn't going to work with any existing Windows apps..

And Microsoft is cutting the "desktop mode" from their ARM versions of Windows 8.

So it's most likely the vast majority of Windows 8 tablets, will essentially be oversized Windows Phones.

If you really want a Windows tablet.. why aren't you buying them? Why haven't you bought any of the ones that have been available for a decade? I've owned one before.. they really aren't that useful.. I get the idea of wanting your device to be flexible, but really you end up with an underpowered "PC", and a "tablet" that is hard to work with.

TLDR: What you guys are asking for has been available for a decade, and has been a pretty big flop... and Windows 8 tablets are going the iPad route, not the "try to be both a full powered PC and a tablet route" that past and present Windows tablets have attempted to do.

Well phone calls and more than just imessage (since not EVERYONE has a iOS device).

Palm/HP kinda were pushing this with their TouchPad and Pre...you essentially don't have to touch your phone when you come home because all could be handled through the tablet. Which i think would be nice as a lot of people put the phone down when at home....even if its just adding all text messages it would just be nice and simple to work with one device rather than juggle both.
