Official Handheld Thread ((3)DS, Vita, iOS, Android)

I'm seriously considering picking up a Vita when it comes out a launch. I've never been much of handheld player but the games on the Vita look very appealing. Plus I could be doing lots of air travel in the near future so I would love something to keep me occupied.

EDIT: There are a couple of concerns I have about the Vita. One, I don't like the idea of how much the memory cards cost. I think it's a complete sham that they justify the price tag on those. Secondly, I really hope that it can keep the support of the studios. Phone games are becoming bigger and bigger on the iPhone. Granted, they aren't as great as the Vita but would it looks like it is easier for studios to make a profit on the iPhone rather than the Vita. We all know support for the PSP wasn't spectacular, but I'm really hoping that changes for the Vita.

Some of the games I saw today looked pretty incredible. I could easily see myself picking up Uncharted, Resistance, ModNation, Lumines, and possibly Gravity Rush. Plus, I love the idea of a Bioshock handheld game.

• You have a right to be pissed about proprietary cards. Proprietary anything rips off the consumers. The only reason they do this is to stop piracy, but my guess is it won't even be half a year before Vita games are getting pirated.
• That is a concern, with the hardware I see third party studios being around for a while. However, if the system doesn't sell, then the third party's will go away. There's no reason why first party titles wont be great for the long run though. Square Enix is kind of feeling out both the 3DS and Vita to see where their support should go.
• Vita works on Android marketplace. A lot of Android games will work on Vita, requiring only built in support for it. Xperia Play games will be compatible as well, which are comprised mostly of PSone games.

Basically, I recommend you wait unless there's 3-4 games at launch you want, in which there are for me. I like Gravity Rush, Hot Shots Golf, Modnation, F1, Uncharted, and Touch my Katamari. It's unknown whether some of these are launch titles. There's also a PSN downloadable Motorstorm game coming day one, comprised of top down style RC cars. The cool thing about that one is if you buy the Vita version, you can also play it on PS3.

[edit] I noticed in the Uncharted: Golden Abyss trailer that you can play through w/o using the gimmicky touch and motion controls. I hope all games have this option.

I also completely forgot about MotorStorm RC, I would definitely get that as well. As for the price model, I figured I would just get the WiFi only. I don't play Multiplayer that much (I don't even have Live Gold) and if I do I would just play within my own home.

Also, something else I'm curious about is just how exactly powerful is the Vita compared to other consoles (handheld and console)? The graphics look pretty damn amazing on most of these titles.

Sony said its about halfway between PS2 and PS3 as far as power.

Here's the Android article. Basically, it's up to the developer to put Vita compatibility in their games, but I'm sure it's not that hard to do. Hopefully well be able to use the controls for some of them.

A boat named after the PlayStation Vita has capsized in the Atlantic. Tom Sauer and Tom Francett were attempting to take part in the month-long Talisker Atlantic Challenge, traveling from the Canary Islands to Barbados, when their boat was hit by gigantic waves on the eighth day of the trip.

The boat, a twenty-four foot rowboat, eventually sank. Sauer and Francett spent the night on an emergency life raft before eventually being rescued by a nearby cruise ship.



"Our boat was thrown over and capsized. The cabin flooded. We desperately tried to turn the boat back up again- but to no avail. In fact our PSVita/teamtom boat started to sink," Sauer wrote in a statement. "We are obviously very disappointed but at the first place very happy to be alive and very grateful to our rescuers."

Both men are currently headed to St. Maarten and "will come back with a full report shortly." Sony, who sponsored their trip, haven't commented on the incident.

Very excited, the GBA era managed to pretty much pass me by, literally no clue how but i own like, 3 GBA games. So safe to say, i've never played any of these.

My favorite of the bunch is Fire Emblem. It's a lot like Ghost Recon Shadow Wars if you picked that up.

Depends how you look at it. I look at it as a good sign for Sony that there are people so hyped for the Vita they named a boat after it even if it did sink. Don't see any 3DS boats now though do you?
