Budget..the problem is to find a display, budget because of this rather secondary. It may not be a Korean brand because of guaranty problems.
There are no glossy VA panels and no affordable 1920x1200 VA panels. Some older, wide gamut Eizo S-PVA panels can be found but they use grainy matte coatings compared to the newer models which are pretty much all semi-glossy.

If you want high color space coverage you need to buy a quality AHVA/IPS/PLS panel since VA gamma shift negates the high sRGB color space coverage. I've included all of the reviewed 24" panels in this thread. None of the 27" VA panels can cover 98%+ of the sRGB color space and they are all semi-glossy.

Compared to what? It's a TN panel, so the color and viewing angle quality will still look obviously worse compared to a decent AHVA/IPS/PLS panel.

I'm only aware of one U28D590D review
. Based on their results the color quality seems decent for a TN but it has poor contrast and they don't test the sRGB color space coverage or accuracy...

    Thanks.
So, sadly there are no VA panel 3000:1 contrast glossy >97% sRGB color coverage displays/panels -- conclusion:
    -- semi-glossy: AHVA/IPS/PLS/VA(3000:1)
-- glossy: AHVA/IPS/PLS (damn no VA)

Which means I could choose a semi-glossy VA and have good dark colors (>97% sRGB too) or choose a glossy AHVA/IPS/PLS because they have even better colors. I think I prefer the better colors of AHVA/IPS/PLS, but then I'd rather choose a non-Korean brand because of guaranty problems. I'll check the first post for glossy again.

    NCX,

I need a monitor mostly for reading and writing (text clarity is very important, reduction of eye fatigue is very important), occasional photo and graphic editing, and simple video watching and web browsing. My budget is around $700 and I don't do any gaming.

In this light, I would appreciate more comments comparing the AOC Q2770PQU with the Viewsonic VP2770. I know you've said that the AOC is a little better than the Viewsonic. Also what about the HP ZR2740W (lacks USB 3.0 ports)? The AOC does not fare very well here:
    http://www.hardwareluxx.com/index.ph...q2770pqu-.html

I have an older NEC 20WMGX2 IPS monitor at home and an HP L2335 IPS monitor at work. Both are very good. Now, with a new PC arriving, I am looking for something dramatically better than these.

    Thanks very much!

    Paul

All of the monitors you picked have similar semi-glossy (grain free matte) coatings, but the BL2710PT's coating is slightly lighter, however one would likely need to get very close to see the difference. I assume that Hardware Luxx connected the AOC via HDMI to a Nvidia GPU, which some times have issues which is why the measured contrast is so low compared to the 3 other AOC's reviewed.

The AOC is cheaper than the Viewsonic in North America and has slightly better color presets than both the BL2710PT and VP2770 as well as better calibrated color accuracy than the VP2770 thanks to the more accurate sRGB color space coverage according to =DEAD='s review. The AOC is also =DEAD='s top pick along with the Eizo EV2736W.

My recommendations encompass all around use, gaming being one of the highest priorities, and the ZR2740W is quite expensive in some countries (750$ in Canada where I live vs. 450$ in the US) which is why it is not one of my top choices. The ZR2740Ws pixel response times are fast enough for watching content and the color presets are quite good.

If you are interested in my light bleed free and calibrated BL2710PT ([H] FS Thread), pm me.

Besides the slightly better color presets, does the AOC Q2770PQU have other advantages over the BenQ BL2710PT? Prices are identical on newegg. Which would be your choice?

1.) The AOC's color controls (Red, Green and Blue) are unlocked out of the box and the color presets are better. A few settings need to changed to unlock the BenQ's color controls, and the color accuracy and quality decreases slightly once they are. This might not be important when considering your intended uses, but the AOC wins on principle alone.

    2.) AOC.

If you want a 120hz+ monitor wait for the new (list of monitors) with G-Sync and Light Boost to come out.

The XL2720Z has better colors than the VG248QE, especially when using the Lightboost mode since the VG248QE's lightboost colors are awful. TFT Central has reviewed the XL2720Z.

I know, but the new VG248QE with G-Sync will offer much better for PC gaming performance than the current version, especially since the Lightboost colors will be improved. The VG248QE's 60hz colors are ok but are not as good as the XL2720Z's when set higher than 60hz with Lightboost disabled.
